The Laos Project
In 2010, after three highly successful years as the top South Australian school in the 40 Hour Famine, the College community embarked on an ambitious goal to raise money for the people of Laos in a partnership with World Vision.
Since the Project’s inception, the College has had casual days, sausage sizzles and many other events to raise money for this worthy cause. These events have been supplemented by a successful 10 cent deposit recycling drive, run by student volunteers.
Wes Chambers, a Woodcroft College staff and project team member, says that "This project is about more than just raising money for people in need. It’s about raising awareness of the needs of other people and having a deeper appreciation of all that we have and enjoy".
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos) is a land-locked country bordering Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and China in Southeast Asia. Considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world, 80% of its population still depends on agriculture and at least 30% of the population is estimated to live in poverty.
To date, the College has donated $26,457 to this food and security project.
