18 May 2022
On Monday 16 May, six Woodcroft College students were nominated to receive a Youth Recognition Award through the Onkaparinga Youth Committee. Youth Recognition Awards allow young people to be recognised, celebrated and honoured for their outstanding actions in improving their communities, self and securing their futures.
Elsie Procter (Year 5)
After Elsie’s love of baking led her to do a successful bake sale at home in late 2021, she was keen to do it again. So, in 2022, Elsie’s Sweet Delivery was born – a contactless delivery service. She brainstormed her business name, created her own logo using Canva, set-up an order form using Google Forms, set-up a payment process and used Excel to keep track of her orders.
Layla Bovell (Year 8)
Layla was a member of our Green Team project to build a garden to support food supply for our Home Economics Centre. She worked with our Year 4 students on how to take care of worm farms and use classroom waste to feed the worms. Layla has worked with our Year 5 to 8 students in initiating sustainability ideas, such as Nude Food Day and Junior School plantings. She continues to work with students on a bush tucker garden and water-efficient gardens.
Reef Fahey (Year 8)
Reef has completed over 400km of water skiing to create awareness for Down Syndrome and Ski for Life. He competed in the Ski for Life race in March, which coincided with World Down Syndrome Day. Along the way he has raised over $13,000 which will be split between the two causes.
Olivia Goncalves (Year 8)
Olivia was a member of our Green Team project to build a garden to support food supply for our Home Economics Centre. She worked with our Year 4 students on how to take care of worm farms and use classroom waste to feed the worms. Olivia has worked with our Year 5 to 8 students in initiating sustainability ideas, such as Nude Food Day and Junior School plantings. She continues to work with students on a bush tucker garden and water-efficient gardens.
Lucy Stevens (Year 8)
Lucy joined the Christies Beach Surf Life Saving Club as a Nipper in 2017. Since then, she has obtained all her junior awards, CPR certificate, her Surf Rescue Certificate and countless other awards (15 in total). She has continued to represent the surf club in competitions and is now part of their Youth Group.
Alex Graham (Year 9)
Alex is an active member of the Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club. He has gained his Surf Rescue Certificate (including CPR) and actively patrols the beach. Alex is also an age group assistant to the U8s and assists them in surf lifesaving development and with their activities.
We congratulate all students on their wonderful achievements.
