My name is Georgia Dallimore and I am so excited to be the College’s first ever Japanese language ambassador. I have spent the past semester with the ambassadors for Italian and German shaping this role, so it may continue as a leadership position in the future. Over the past few weeks, we have been presenting the new Excellence in Language Acquisition Awards for Middle School students, who have displayed outstanding efforts in German and Japanese. I also had the wonderful privilege to spend time with Japanese student teacher Ayana Yamamoto, who was at the College during Term 2 to provide a valuable insight into Japanese culture and help students practice their Japanese speaking skills.
I love learning Japanese because it gives me the chance to learn about this fascinating culture, converse with people from Japan and extend myself through the skills gained in studying this language. I feel a great sense of joy in being able to understand Japanese, and it opens up a wide array of career pathways for the future, such as becoming a translator or even working/studying in Japan.
Like all second languages, Japanese was challenging to learn at first, but it is such a rewarding language to be able to grasp. There is a world of possibility opened up by studying it, and I am so glad I chose to take up this opportunity.
