Woodcroft College has many opportunities for expression of creativity and development of passions and interests through participation in music and drama, as part of the curriculum complemented by many extra-curricular opportunities.

Music Program

The Music Program at Woodcroft College is highly regarded and combines both the practical and the theoretical study of music in a dedicated Music Centre. Music is a compulsory part of the curriculum until Year 8. Students studying Year 9 to 12 Music as a subject must have individual tuition on their instrument.

Learning a musical instrument starts in Year 3 and can be continued throughout a student’s school journey. All Year 5 students participate in our Band program and small group tuition lessons are provided for three terms.

Private tuition is available in the Music Centre with specialist instrumental tutors covering a wide range of instruments:

  • Bassoon
  • Cello
  • Clarinet
  • Drum Kit
  • Flute
  • Guitar (Acoustic, Bass and Electric)
  • Piano
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Violin/Viola
  • Voice

Our extra-curricular Music Program aims to enrich, inspire and engage students, encouraging growing confidence and sense of achievement through involvement in choirs, bands, ensembles and live performance experiences.

Middle and Senior School students involved in the Concert Band can be offered the opportunity to travel and perform overseas every second year.

Showcase

The wonderful talents and hard work of students involved in the Music Program is presented at the annual Showcase held at the Hopgood Theatre. This not to be missed event is a highlight from our Performing Arts calendar and celebrates the many aspects of music performance and presents a diverse range of musical styles.

Annual Musical Productions

The College Musical is another highlight on our Performing Arts calendar. Performing to capacity audiences, our students leave everyone in awe, performing musical productions that have played on stages around the world.

Middle and Senior School students can audition for lead, support or ensemble roles. From Term 1, cast members will be involved in after school rehearsals for vocals, music and choreography before the live performances in Term 3.

There are also opportunities for behind the scenes involvement through costume team and crew. Our strong Music Program ensures that that the Musical always has a live band giving our Music students another performance opportunity.

Our Junior School students do not miss out as they have a smaller musical production giving audition and performance experiences. Their production is held every two years.
